Welcome, friends, to www.mikeallemana.com

June 2011

Don't miss The Organ Trio with special guest saxophonist Scott Burns at 5th Annual Glen Ellyn Jazz Festival.  We will be playing from 9pm-10pm.  The festival is located on Main St. in downtown Glen Ellyn. Sponsored by WDCB Public Radio, the Chicago area's best jazz radio station.

The Regulators are playing on Monday, August 8th, 8pm, at Martyr's, 3855 N. Lincoln ave.  And, of course, don't forget that we have a steady first Monday of the month at Lizard's Liquid Lounge, 3058 W. Irving Park Rd.  Don't miss this opportunity to have your world shifted into new realms of funkified grooves in numbers bigger than 4.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
Come Sunday will be at the Mayne Stage on Sunday, July 17th at 7pm . Don't miss this chance to hear Sue, Lindsay, Alton, and Bill at this amazing venue.

I did a cool radio interview with jazz vocalist Solitaire Miles: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Solitaire-Miles/2009/06/26/Tones.   We talked a lot about the old days and the new projects.

Jazz guitar instructors and students:

Greg Fishman, one of Chicago's great tenor saxophonists,  and I have collaborated on a new book "Jazz Guitar Etudes" which is a guitar version of Greg's highly successful book "Jazz Etudes for Saxophone".   This book has been endorsed by Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman , North Texas guitar prof. Fred Hamilton , and jazz guitar book guru Corey Christiansen .  Anyone interested in the book can go to Greg Fishman's site www.gregfishmanjazzstudios.com, or pick up a copy at the Old Town School's Different Strummer music store or Paul Maslin's PM Woodwinds in Evanston.

Wow!!.  This is cool.  I was voted by the readers of the Chicago Reader as best jazz soloist in 2008.    Thanks to everyone who voted for me.  I am honored to be in the minds of jazz fans considering all the great players in Chicago.

It's been a very exciting time for me musically. I have been involved in a lot of new projects lately.  The 2 projects you should look out for are:

Come Sunday --a new jazz/gospel group that is 4 voices, Bill Brickey, Sue Demel, Lindsay Weinberg, and Alton Smith, with a jazz trio, myself on guitar, Al Ehrich on bass, and drummer Lenny Marsh.  Alll the arrangements are by yours truly.

The Regulators --A new band I am doing with Jordan Baskin on keys, Matt Ferguson on the pork chop, and Funky Gerald Dowd on the drums.  This group is an extension of the set ending funk jam we do with the Model Citizens big band.  It's mostly spontaneous funk grooves with a couple original compositions mixed in.

The Quartet CD, "Inner Rhythm" is available, and you can go to CD Baby to get it.  Gingi and I have also finally released our new CD, "The Night's Womb and the Morning Sun," which can also be found on CD Baby

Peace,
Mike Allemana
