 Brian O'hern and the Model
Citizens Big Band has been together since
1996. When Brian started the band, he had around 10-15 charts.?
Now he has around 70 charts, mostly original
compositions.? The band consits of some of the best players in
town, including saxophonist Pat Mallinger, Matt Ferguson, great young
trombonist John Yao, and drumming sensation Gerald Dowd, not to mention
surprise appearances by Dan Trudell on tuba and Jim from Elite Audio on
the crazy keyboard sounds.
This band has been another fun project for me.? Brian is basically
insane, but his music has real depth, with influences ranging from
traditional big band to Prokofiev, Spike Jones, and Frank Zappa.? He
has also been extremely generous in allowing me to arrange for the
featured vocalist Carol Kagy, a fantastic singer, and various members of
the band.
Make sure to come see this band! You won't regret it.? The Model
Citizens Big Band plays the third Monday of every month, 10:00pm, at
the Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley.
